Standard SPECed JD:

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education end Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent

Two (2) years of experience interpreting for the Deaf

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrated interpreting and transliterating skills (sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign). Proficiency in using the English language.

Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two (2) years college-level coursework

Recognized two (2) year sign language interpreter training program

Certification by Registry of Interpreters for Deaf (RID) with CICT Certification. (Certified Interpreter and Certified Translator) or Level 4 or 5 from NAD.

Educational interpreting experience

 

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

Criminal background clearance

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

The role of an Educational Interpreter within the education team. Deaf Culture.

School board policies and procedures

 

ABILITY TO:

Properly use sign language systems such as ASL, SEE, and PSE.

Organize and perform job responsibilities efficiently and independently without close supervision and able to pay strict attention to detail

Speak, read and follow written or verbal communications

Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines

Develop and maintain positive customer relations with staff and service providers Work collaboratively with District staff and promote teamwork with co-workers Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct including the requirements of confidentiality

Relate effectively with parents, staff, students and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community
